Warming up. Clear skies and good visibility for photography. Fewer tourists.

☀️ Summer (Jun-Aug)

Warm and pleasant. Peak season for photography. Sunset light shows at Danxia are spectacular.

🍂 Autumn (Sep-Nov)

Best season. Golden autumn grasses contrast with the colorful rocks. Cool and dry.

❄️ Winter (Dec-Feb)

Very cold but the 'Ice Danxia' at Binggou is uniquely beautiful with snow-covered formations.

  • Sunset Timing: Arrive at Danxia by 4PM for the evening color show. Colors intensify dramatically as the sun lowers.
  • Platform Strategy: Start at Platform 4 (best sunset), then Platform 1, then Platforms 2 and 3.
  • Photography: Bring a polarizing filter for the best rainbow effect. No tripods allowed inside.
  • Combine with Jiayuguan: Zhangye and Jiayuguan can be done in 2 days — both are on the Hexi Corridor route.
